Today, we’re talking about a big event that’s around the corner! It’s huge, it’s worldwide, it matters to everyone on the planet and it’s on April 22nd. It’s Earth Day.

Why Celebrate Earth Day? Earth Day reminds us we all share the same planet. Sharing Earth means taking responsibility for what we use and how we use it. It is a day to think of the environmental challenges we face and how to solve them. Protecting Earth is every person’s and every country’s responsibility.

April 22nd, celebrated across the planet. Big day for everyone. Earth Day! It’s on April 22nd and that gives us just about enough time to gear up for it! Earth Day is the largest, most widely celebrated international environmental event.

Earth Day helps celebrate Earth’s unique place in the universe.

It is the only planet in our solar system teeming with incredible biodiversity. Earth Day celebrations provide a chance to remember what an amazing planet we live on. Let us discover few fascinating information about the planet we live on. Like for example did you know that the Earth doesn’t take 24 hours to rotate on its axis It’s actually 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds. This is the amount of time it takes for the Earth to completely rotate around its axis; astronomers call this a sidereal day. Now wait a second, which means a day is 4 minutes shorter than we think it is. You’d think that time would add up, day by day, and within a few months, day would be night, and night would be day.

But there is an explanation to this: Remember that the Earth orbits around the Sun. Every day, the Sun moves compared to the background stars by about 1° – about the size of the Moon in the sky. And so, if you add up that little motion from the Sun that we see because the Earth is orbiting around it, as well as the rotation on its axis, you get a total of 24 hours. Now that sounds like the day we know.

Here’s another interesting fact..it is estimated that there could be between 5 to 100 million different species on Earth. Awesome isnt it?  This incredible biodiversity is what enriches our lives on this planet and is also essential for our survival.

How do people round the world celebrate?

They traditionally celebrate Earth Day with the ringing of bells, often bells of peace. The tradition of bell ringing is practiced all over the world on Earth Day. Representatives from Palestine, Austria, and Russia have all rung a Peace Bell in a ceremony celebrating the protection of the environment and of Earth’s many species.

China celebrates Earth Day each year with a theme. One year the theme was Protection of Geographic Relics and Scientific Development. This theme highlighted the importance of preserving cultural history and artifacts. Another year the theme focused on sustainable use of natural resources in China and all over the world.

In Kenya, distinguished guests and schoolchildren planted 1,000 trees in Nairobi’s endangered Karura forest. The plantings were in honor of Earth Day and Kenya’s National Tree Planting Day on April 21.

India seems to be hit the most, concerning our ecosystem. Our fragile ecosystem. Disappearing trees, polluted rivers, skyscrapers everywhere, and due to the rapid industrialisation people are yearning for a pollution free environment.

How have you celebrated Earth Day in the past? There are many different things each of us can do to help protect species, keep Earth clean, and fix damage that has been done.

  • Use public transport whenever possible: Walk or ride a bicycle to the park, or the store. This is a great way to help reduce the pollution
  • Separate garbage at source: Create a compost pile for food scraps and plant waste from the garden. This is a good way to cut down on the amount of trash that goes into a landfill. As a bonus, compost helps create rich soil for gardening.
  • Use plastic bags to a minimum
  • Increase your awareness about your environment
  • Avoid using chemical pesticides
  • Plant trees cause trees help keep the air clean.
  • Do not litter. Pick up litter on the sidewalk, street, or beach. This will help
  • Recycle! Recycling is an important part of keeping Earth clean. It is very easy keep the environment free of contaminants.to do. By giving old things a new life we put less pressure on important resources all of us will need in the future to survive.
  • Reduce your paper consumption
  • Save water

What an awesome plant we live on! As we get caught up in all the big things of life, we forget to stop and look at the breath-taking sights! But this is all just fading away.

When we don’t use resources in a responsible way, we may create pollution that can damage water, soil, air, and other parts of the environment. Earth Day celebrations are a great opportunity to teach us all about the planet and how every person can make a difference. Earth Day celebrations provide a chance to remember what an amazing planet we live on. Let us do our very best to make earth-friendly choices. More cities around the world are making streets, roads, and special paths just for bicycles and pedestrians. On special days each week, month, or year, many cities close some of their roads to cars and other vehicles in order to promote walking and bicycle riding.

We need to protect Endangered Species Along with pollution, things like habitat destruction and poaching are causing some species to become endangered. Finding ways to protect and save endangered species should be our primary goal. Earth Day celebrations are a great opportunity for conservation groups to teach us all about the planet and how every person can make a difference.

“Have you heard about the monarch butterfly that migrates from Canada to Mexico and back-almost 6000 kilometers. And this is a tiny butterfly we’re talking about!” Completely blows you away doesn’t it?
